The Mountaineer basketball team needed to play well to defeat Montana Western.  The Bulldogs came into the game ranked #4 in the nation, boasting a perfect 13-0 record.  In a lot of areas they did play well unfortunately, shooting was not one of them.  Eastern shot just 34% for the game (24-70) while UM-Western was shooting just under 52% (28-54).

In the first half the Bulldogs pounded the ball inside to their senior post Becky O’Neil who had 14 in the first period.  The Mounties responded by holding O’Neil to just 4 in the second stanza.  Unfortunately, Western made them pay by shooting an astonishing 78% from distance (7-9).

EOU was led by junior guard Stephanie Neubauer who had 15 points on 6-11 shooting.  Whitney Leman had 13 points and 5 assists, while Elise Hawes was impressive around the basket scoring 12 points and snatching 5 rebounds over the much bigger Bulldog front line.

In the first game of the night Albertson College defeated Whitworth College 83-66 on the strength of Denise Hills 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Whitworth was paced by Alida Bower who had 16 points and 6 rebounds for the Pirates.
