Two Dominating Performances on Day 1 of Holiday Classic

The University of Western-Montana (13-0) defeated Albertson College (5-5) 71-54 in the first game of the Holiday Classic double header held in Quinn Coliseum.  Senior post Katherine Sunwall led Western with 17 points and 10 rebounds while The Yotes were led by their junior guard Whitney Clark who scored 14 points and hauled in 4 rebounds. 

 

 

The Bulldogs were stifling defensively, holding Albertson to 30% shooting for the game (19-62) including 0 for their first 15.  UM-Western scored the games first 15 points and never looked back. 

 

 

On Saturday’s Albertson will face Whitworth College at 5:30pm while Western Montana will square off against The Mountaineers in the Holiday Classic finally at 7:30.

 

 

In Friday’s nightcap Eastern Oregon (6-2) defeated Whitworth College (5-1) 70-53.  The Mounties were once again led by junior transfer Tiffanie Ulmer who scored 24 points on 9-13 shooting and added 9 rebounds.  Tiffanie Corigliano scored 13 points to pace the Pirates.

 

 

Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh was pleased with her team’s performance, “We did an excellent job defensively.  It got our offense started early.”  Eastern led by 22 points at half and came out strong again to start the second half before giving way to some different lineups.  Coach Weissenfluh also had plenty of praise for Ulmer, “Tiffanie came out on fire.  She was ready to go from the start.”

 

 

Eastern will square off against the 4th ranked Bulldogs of Western-Montana at 7:30pm Saturday night in the final game of the Holiday Classic.
