The Mountie Women improved to 4-1 with a 68-64 victory over Westminster College in their second game of the Lady Yote Classic hosted by Albertson’s College in Caldwell Idaho.  It was the second win over the Griffins in the last week.  Eastern defeated Westminster on November 17th in the Lewis-Clark Tournament.

According to coach Weissenfluh, “The team came out a little sluggish in the first half.  We had a lot of unforced turnovers.”  Eastern finished the game with 20 turnovers, many of which were committed in the first half.  The first stanza saw the Mounties score just 27 points, leaving them tied at the break. Senior wing Christie Weaver led the team in scoring with 23 points on 9-14 shooting.

While Weaver was leading the charge offensively Junior Forward Tiffanie Ulmer continued her stellar play over the weekend by racking up 16 rebounds.  Fifteen of those rebounds came off the defensive glass.  Coach Weisenfluh said, “Tiffanie’s rebounding got our fast break going.”  That fast break allowed the Mountaineers to score 41 second half points on their way to victory.

Eastern will start league play this Friday, December 1st in Caldwell Idaho, when the women and men will face Albertson’s College at 5:30pm and 7:30pm MT.  If you are interested in attending the games Eastern Oregon University is providing a booster bus.  For the low cost of $35 you will get round trip passage, a ticket into the contests and pre game meal.  For more information visit the link on the main athletic page or call the athletic office at 962-3364.
