KIRKLAND, Wash.- Number 23 Eastern Oregon (22-3, 15-2 Cascade Collegiate Conference) held its place atop the Cascade Conference tonight with a 53-39 victory over the Eagles tonight at Northwest University (3-22, 2-15 CCC).
NU led early, 8-7, at the 15:49 mark of the first half, but EOU went on a 10-0 run capped off by Sheena Henderson's jumper to take the lead, 17-8 with 6:11 left in the half. With the Mounties leading 23-16 and with 2:13 remaining, Northwest would go on a 5-0 run to end the half down 2 at 23-21.
Rachel Travis' jumper to start the half even the score at 23, but Laura Olsen would put EOU in front once again with her jumper at 25-23 only to see the score tied once again as NU's Steph Flatau tipped in a rebound to even the score at 25 a piece. Tiffanie Ulmer's shot would give EOU the lead once again at 29-25 at the 16:12 mark.
The Eagles once again would go on a 6-0 run to take the lead 31-29 with 15:02 on the clock. Ulmer would tie the game again at 31 and the Mounties would take the lead for the remainder of the game on a 3-point play by Salena Leavitt as she made the jumper and the free throw as the CCC's league leaders remained in front the rest of the contest.
Senior forward Tiffanie Ulmer led Eastern Oregon with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Sheena Henderson dropped in 15 points for the Mounties. Northwest was led by Brittany Bowsher who scored 15 points for the Eagles.
The Mountaineers will travel south to Olympia tomorrow for a match-up with The Evergreen State College. On Jan. 11, EOU defeated TESC in La Grande, 65-58. The Geoducks (8-18, 7-10 CCC) edged The College of Idaho Friday evening, 79-71.
