Matson Earns Academic All-America Honors

Olathe, Kan. - Over 220 women's basketball players from across the country have been named 2007 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Basketball All-American Scholar-Athletes. Student-athletes must be nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

 

Amanda Matson and her teammates have enjoyed a lot of success this season, going 25-7 on their way to being named Conference Champions and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament.

 

Matson, a junior from Ninilchik, Alaska is a business major and has an Eastern Oregon University Cumulative GPA of 3.56.

 

When asked how she manages to balance all the time she spends with basketball and her studies she said simply, "I do a lot of homework on Sundays."

 

Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh was excited to learn of Matson's accomplishment, "I am really proud of her.  That was one of her goals and she worked hard to achieve this accomplishment."

 

Matson will return to the Mountaineers next season for her senior year.
