| The next Lisa Leslie? |
| Not a stretch |
Destinee Hooker is the most incredible all-around senior ('06) athlete in Texas, and possibly the country. She has verbally comitted to the Texas Longhorns volleyball team, intends to run for the the Texas track team with her sister
(Marshavet) and hopes to make the UT basketball team as a walk on. Destinee says "I want to be an All-Ameican in all three sports."
| As a high jumper she hopes to be able to jump her own height of 6'4. For now her personal best is 6 feet and 1/2 an inch, which was the third best jump in the country in 2005. |
Her high school basketball coach (Bill Avey) at Southwest HS, in San Antonio says, "Destinee is an incredible athlete, an intense competitor, and she strives for greatness in all she does. She loves to play the game and it shows in her actions on the court."
Coach Avey spent 5 years at Incarnate Word High School posting an impressive 128-37 record before arriving last season at Southwest. And in his first season at the helm SA Southwest won district 5A-25 with a 12-0 mark.

Yes, that is actually her hand above the rim. |
We asked coach Avey what are some of her most impressive stats?
There are several. In an early game against a very good O'Connor team she posted 33 points, 19 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots. She had 19, 18, and 9 against national powerhouse Lynwood in the Lonestar Invitational. She grabbed 29 rebounds against Incarnate Word, blocked 17 shots against Harlandale, had a triple/double against East Central (27 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 blocks), but maybe her most impressive outing all year was against San Marcos in a district battle:
40 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 blocked
shots. More importantly, she refused to allow our team to lose that night in San Marcos.
| Destinee and coach Avey agree that the WNBA is in her future. Destinee has her sights set on becoming the next great post in women's professional basketball stating, "I want to be the next Lisa Leslie." |
| Bound for Greatness |
| TexasGirlsBasketball.com wishes Destinee, coach Avey and the rest of their team great success in 2005-06. |
