Sioux City Iowa - The defending National Champion Hasting College Broncos were too much to handle for the Mountaineers. Eastern got off to a good start and actually led the game for several minutes before the Broncos went on a run that just never seemed to stop.
Hastings, out of Nebraska, won the game 74-47 bringing their win total to 27 with just six losses. For The Mountaineers it was a bad ending to a great season. EOU finished the season with a record of 25-7 and were Cascade Conference Co-Champions.
Sheena Henderson led the Mounties in scoring with 17 points, the junior added 5 rebounds. Henderson did her best the keep EOU in the game in the first half with her scoring around the basket. However, Hastings perimeter shooting and pressure defense did the Mounties in.
For the game the Broncos made 11 three point shots to Easterns two. The Mountaineers also turned the ball over 26 times, while forcing Hastings into just 11.
For seniors Liz Brice, Candice Davis and Christie Weaver it was the last game of their careers. Brice finished the game with 4 points and 2 rebounds, Davis entered the game late in the second half and scored a basket and pulled down 2 rebounds.
Weaver, who averaged 16 points per contest this season, got just five shot attempts up, making two. She did manage to score 11 points and grab 5 boards.
While the Mountaineers will have to replace three very important pieces to their Conference Co-Championship team next year, EOU will return nine members of the 2006-2007 roster.
As a side note, Christie Weaver will end her career as the 3rd All-Time leading scorer with 1,489 points. She will also finish with 291 three pointers, far and away the most in school history.
