La Grande Ore. The Mountaineers (25-5) held Oregon Tech (26-6) to just 20% (14-67) shooting and only 11 points in the first half of Friday nights 53-34 semifinal win over the Owls.
Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh could not have been more pleased with her team's defense, "It was the best defensive performance of the season for us." Coach Weissenfluh was impressed with junior forward Sheena Henderson, "Sheena was terrific defensively. She did a great job not letting the ball go into the post and was all over the boards."
Henderson also played well offensively, leading the Mounties with 15 points. Tiffanie Ulmer and Laura Olsen came off the bench to score 10 a piece. Ulmer had a perfect shooting night going 3-3 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe. The two juniors each pulled down 5 rebounds.
The win was EOU's 25th of the season. They will compete for the CCC Tournament Championship title Monday night against Corban College in Quinn Coliseum. Both teams have already secured a spot in the NAIA national tournament. Eastern qualified by winning the regular season crown. Corban will receive the second automatic bid by virtue of getting to the championship game against EOU.
Monday's game is scheduled to start at 7:00pm. Pre purchase your tickets in the main athletic office Monday morning.
