Senior Christie Weaver started her last run through the Cascade Conference tournament with a 32-point outing as the Women Mountaineers’ rolled eighth-seeded Northwest College.
The Mountie Women started off cold, scoring only four points in the first 3 minutes of the game. However, an early seven-point deficit was cut to one on back-to-back three point buckets from Weaver and the Mounties would never look back.
Even with her team up 32-25 at the half, Coach Anji Weissenfluh was still concerned with her teams performance. “We still have room for improvement,” said Weissenfluh. “We definitely lost the rebounding battle tonight, but we just have to keep working on executing the little things.”
The Mountaineers gave up 21 offensive rebounds to the Eagles of Northwest, but were able to force 21 turnovers. The Mountie women’s bench helped the cause, outscored Northwest’s bench 19-5
“Laura Olsen did a great job of running her lane and attacking the hoop,” Weissenfluh said. “Northwest came in with nothing to lose, and I give them credit because they are a team that always plays hard.”
Weaver started the evening at 1,480 points for her career, went into halftime at 1,500 exactly and ended the night at 1,512. Junior Tiffanie Ulmer scored 14 points and Junior Sheena Henderson pulled down a team high eight rebounds and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field.
Kim Sandberg, who scored a team-high 22 points, led Northwest, while Sam McCracken chipped in with 16 points of her own. The Eagles end their season at 10-21. The Mountaineer women now wait to see whom they will play in the next round.
