La Grande, Ore. Christie Weaver needed just one point to get to 1,300 points for her career, but she did a lot more. The senior from La Grande scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in a 76-52 conference win over Concordia. Weaver’s 1,319 points surpassed Melissa Powers’ mark of 1,305 and moved her into 4th place on EOU’s list of all-time leading scorers.
With ten minutes to go in the contest Eastern found themselves down 4 points before going on a huge run that allowed the Mounties to run away with the game. After shooting a dreadful 28% from the field and 14% from the 3 point line in the first half, The Mountaineers shot 55%, including 60% from behind the arc down the stretch.
Joining Weaver in double figures was junior forward Sheena Henderson who scored 13 points while senior Liz Brice had 10 points and added 5 assists. Junior point guard Whitney Leman played very well scoring 7 points, dishing out 9 assists and gathering in 4 rebounds. Salena Leavitt also came off the bench and gave valuable minutes according to Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh, “(Salena) stepped up and did a lot of the intangibles.”
Christie Weaver will have another chance to rewrite the history books Saturday night when the Mounties face Cascade Conference opponent Corban College. The La Grande High graduate is just 14 points away from surpassing Jamie Jo Cant and moving into 3rd place on the all-time scoring list.
