After struggling to put the ball in the basket in their 71-68 loss to OIT, Eastern (13-5) came out running on all cylinders Saturday night against Southern Oregon (11-8). The Mounties shot an amazing 66% (32-64) from the field and had five players score in double figures in a 93-79 conference win over the Raiders.
Senior wing Christie Weaver was the star of stars on a night when everyone played well. The La Grande High School product had 29 points and made 9 of her 13 three point attempts while pulling down 9 rebounds. She was just one shy of her own school record of 10 three pointers against Montana Tech last season.
Joining Weaver in double figures were juniors Whitney Leman and Tiffanie Ulmer who each scored 18 points and recorded double-doubles. Leman added 10 assists while turning the ball over just once. Ulmer grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in her 28 minutes of play.
Junior Sheena Henderson continued her strong play scoring 14 points and adding 6 rebounds while senior Liz Brice had back to back strong showings with 12 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out.
After a weekend split The Mountaineers are tied for 3rd in the Cascade Conference with OIT at 6-3. Concordia (3-6) and 2nd place Corban (7-2) are coming to town next weekend. Both games are set to start at 5:30pm.
