Day 1 in the Books for Gillespie, Hoppie and Ohmes

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - On day one of the NAIA Track and Field National Championships multi-sport athletes Kasie Gillespie, Chris Hoppie and Lucas Ohmes got busy.

 

Gillespie, competing in the Indoor Championships for the second consecutive year, finished each of her five events on Thursday. 

 

First up was the 60 Meter Hurdles where Kasie finished in 11th place with a time of 9.52 seconds.  Gillespie went on to finished tied for 14th in the High Jump, 7th in the Shot Put and 6th in the Long Jump, despite scratching on her final two attempts. 

 

In the Women's Pentathlon final event Kasie ran a time of 2.31.56 in the 800 Meters, good enough for 8th and a total of 3173 for the day.

 

For the second straight year Gillespie ends up in 9th place, just a couple of spots away from All-American status.

 

On the Men's side Chris Hoppie is sitting in 6th place after 4 events on day one.  Hoppie scored his biggest victory so far in the 60 Meter Dash with a second place finish (7.19).  He also was 3rd in the Long Jump, 10th in the Shot and tied for 8th in the High Jump.

 

Fellow Heptathlete, Lucas Ohmes is also in good shape in 9th place.  Ohmes was 5th in the 60 Meters, 10th in the Long Jump, 4th in the Shot Put, and 13th in the High Jump.  You might remember Ohmes finished 14th at last years NAIA National Indoor Meet.
