3.25.08

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The 2008 Linfield College Combined Events meet saw the EOU Mounties come away with a pair of wins, when Kasie Gillespie and Lucas Ohmes put together solid second day performances to top the fields in both the Heptathlon and the Decathlon.

Kasie Gillespie, leading after day one in the Heptathlon, performed solidly on day two to hang on and top a field of 16 women. Kasie put together strong marks throughout the competition and sealed the win in the last event of the day (the 800 meter run).

Kasie finished in the top three in every event and won two events (the long Jump and the 800).  In all she won 2 events, placed 2nd in 2 events and 3rd in 3 events.

Joining Kasie were Cayla Weissert in her first ever Heptathlon in 10th, Erin Ontko in 14th and Carla Hoppie in 16th.

Sitting in 4th place after day one Lucas Ohmes put up a couple of big marks and had three other solid marks to pull out the win in the Decathlon.

Lucas set life time PR’s in the Pole Vault (jumping 15’3”- a mark that equals the NAIA Provisional Qualifying mark for the Pole Vault!) and the Javelin throw (with a mark of 182’4”- just off the NAIA Provisional mark of 183’).

Lucas’ point total of 6436 points is 122 points more than he scored at the NAIA Outdoor National meet last spring to earn All American honors.

Following Lucas in third was Chris Hoppie. Chris had several strong events, winning the 110 High Hurdles and the 1500.

Nathan Humphreys closed out his first ever Decathlon in 11th place.
