Softball to Host Northwest Nazarene at Pioneer Field

3.12.07

La Grande, Ore -  For the first time this season the Eastern Oregon University Softball team will be playing at home when they host NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene Tuesday at 2:00pm, sort of....

Due to some weather related delays in EOU's new softball field, set to debut sometime this season, the Mounties will have to start this season playing down the road at Pioneer Field.  The new field will be located off of 6th street, behind the football stadium.

Eastern has started the season 0-2, losing both ends of a double header with NCAA Division I Idaho State.  The Mounties lost the first game 9-1 but bounced back to play the Bengal's close in the second.  The highlight of the game was a solo shot in the 5th inning by second baseman Lindsey Smith which brought the Mounties with a run.  Eastern eventually lost the game 4-2.

Northwest Nazarene is off to a bit of a rough start losing it's first nine contests.  The Crusaders are led by Sophomore Vanessa Shaw.  The 5'2 Helena Montana native is batting .280 with 3 Home Runs and 5 RBI.
