Las Vegas, Nev - Former Mountaineer and 1st Team All-Cascade Conference point guard Maurice Thomas has signed a professional contract to play with the International Basketball League's Las Vegas Stars.
Like most young players, Thomas grew up dreaming of playing in the NBA. However, unlike most, Maurice has never given up on his dream. Instead, even after finishing his collegiate career at Eastern, he has continued to sharpen his skills.
Well, the NBA never came calling but Thomas has taken the first step in making basketball his career.
Mountaineer Head Coach Ryan Looney was excited to learn that Maurice will get a chance to play, especially in Las Vegas, "Maurice Thomas has been a special part of our basketball program at EOU. His passion for the game helped set the tone for all of our current players. This is a unique opportunity for Maurice to start his professional basketball career in his hometown."
The Stars, who are coached by George Tarkanian, the son of former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, will begin their inaugural campaign on Friday April 6, when they travel to Phoenix to face former NBA standout and slam dunk champion Cedric Ceballos and the Phoenix Flame.
