In the first half of the Mountaineers game at Cascade College the home team came out ready to play and red hot from the field. The Thunderbirds knocked down 8 first half three pointers on their way to a 38-36 lead over the Mounties. However, in the second half it was EOU that was came out and played inspired basketball. Eastern outscored Cascade 50 to 16 in the half on their way to a 86-54 win.
The Mounties defensive intensity increased as they held the Thunderbirds to just 6 field goals on the last 20 minutes. The offense was clicking as well. Eastern moved the ball well and played unselfishly against Cascade's zone defense.
Neil Fryer led EOU with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Vernon Cropper, who did most of his damage in the first half when the rest of the Mounties were struggling finished with 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting and added 7 rebounds. Derek Brown had 13 points, all of which came in the second half. Meanwhile, Paul Carollo had another double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
EOU will face OIT on Friday night in La Grande. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
