After trailing 39-38 at halftime, the Mountie Men shot almost 61% in the second half to roll past the Concordia Cavaliers 76-64. Senior Derek Brown led the charge with a game-high 17 points, 11 of which came in the second half.
The Mountaineers also did a better job of guarding the perimeter shot in the second half. The Cavaliers were 9-of-16 on three-point shooting in the first half, but after some halftime adjustments, Concordia made only 2-of-16 three-point shots in the second half.
Sophomore Tanner McIntosh scored 14 points, while classmates Jeremy Templeton and Paul Carollo chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively. Senior Vernon Cropper chipped in with 10 points.
Ernie Rama, who scored a team-high 12 points, led Concordia’s balanced attack in which five different players scored in double figures. Freshman Matt Ochs collected a game-high 16 rebounds for the Cavaliers. The Mountaineers forced 19 Cavalier turnovers, compared to only 11 for Eastern.
The Mountaineer Men return to action Saturday against Cascade Conference foe Corban College. The game will be played in Quinn Coliseum and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
