Eastern Oregon University (14-4) currently ranks 3rd in the nation in assist per game. It was evident why on Saturday night against The Southern Oregon University Raiders (10-10). The Mounties had 26 assists on 36 made field goals in route to an 89-67 conference win over the Raiders, in which Eastern shot an outstanding 63% from the field and had 6 different players reach double figures.
Sophomore Neil Fryer finished with a game-high 16 points on 6-9 shooting. He also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists in his 25 minutes of play. Senior Derek Brown continued his inspired play with 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Brown added 4 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 3 assists of his own. Fellow Senior Vernon Cropper also continued his recent strong play with 11 points on 5-6 shooting. Cropper also handed out 3 assists.
Sophomores Tanner McIntosh, Jeremy Templeton and Paul Carollo all finished with 10 points each. McIntosh dished out 4 assists, while Templeton capped off a great weekend with 7 assists and just 1 turnover giving Jeremy 15 assists to only 2 turnovers in his last 2 games.
Carollo did what he does, get double-doubles. The former Hermiston Bulldog had 10 rebounds to go with his 10 points and yes, he added 2 assists. This was Paul’s 10th double-double of the season. He’s currently tied for 6th among all NAIA Division II players in that category. Freshman Josh Landsverk just missed being the seventh Mountie in double figures, scoring 9 points on 4-7 shooting in just 14 minutes of action.
The 25th ranked Mountaineers return to action next Friday and Saturday night in Quinn Coliseum when they face Concordia and Corban. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
