Tiffanie Ulmer Paul Carollo

For the second time in three weeks the EOU Women’s Basketball Team can boast having the Cascade Conference Player of the Week.  On January 2nd Christie Weaver received the award, and for the next week Tiffanie Ulmer will have the title.  On the men’s side, Paul Carollo was given the award.  For the men, it is the first such honor since Ryan Looney was named head coach in 2004.

Ulmer, a junior from Ellensburg, Washington averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 52% (15-49) from the field and 89% (8-9) from the free throw line during a weekend split against OIT and Southern.  On Friday against OIT it was Tiffanie’s two free throws with just seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime before eventually losing by three in the extra period.  She finished the game with 21 points and 8 boards.  On Saturday Eastern went on to defeat Southern Oregon 93-79 with the help of Ulmer’s 18 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season.

On the season Tiffanie is averaging 11.6 points and a team high 7.3 rebounds per game.  The Yakima Valley Community College transfer has been a consistent contributor inside all season for the Mounties.  According to Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh, “Her teammates can count on her to show up to play every night.  I love that about her.”

Paul Carollo, played a big role in the Mountaineers sweep of OIT and Southern.  Paul had double-doubles in both games.  On Friday he scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while the Mounties knocked of the #7 ranked Oregon Tech Owls.  On Saturday Eastern defeated the Raiders of Southern Oregon 89-67.  Carollo finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Making the most of his opportunities, Paul made 9 of his 14 field goal attempts (64%) and 7 of his 8 (88%) shots from the charity stripe.

For the sophomore from Hermiston this award affirms what his coach already knew.  Little things mean a lot.  "It is nice to see that Paul Carollo has received some recognition.  He has performed very consistently all season.  There are not many players that provide as many intangible things as him" said Head Coach Ryan Looney.

This season Carollo is averaging 12.3 points per game, shooting just under 60% from the field.  More impressively, the 6’4 forward is the leagues best rebounder at 9.2 per contest.  He also ranks 14th nationally in total rebounds and 6th in double-doubles with 10.
