Eastern Athletics Show Well in Coaches' Pre-season Polls

EOU is predicted no lower than fifth in the 11 member Cascade Conference in the five upcoming fall sports.

Eastern showed the best in women’s cross country collecting 109 points including three first place votes, which put them in second closely behind Corban’s 116 points and eight first place votes.

The Mountaineer men’s cross country team also received a first place vote in their sport and collected a total of 92 points, good enough for fourth place. The Cavaliers of Concordia were picked to finish first.

The EOU women’s soccer team finished third in their pre-season poll with 87 points behind Evergreen and unanimous first-place Concordia.

Albertson College collected all first-place votes in volleyball after an 18-0 finish in conference play last season. Eastern volleyball will enter the 2007 season after collecting 67 points in their poll, which put them at fifth place.

After being awarded the conference’s first All-Sports title, Concordia University dominated the pre-season polls, predicted to finish first in three of the five conference sports.

EOU football competes in the Frontier Conference and earlier this month was predicted to finish fourth in the six team field. Defending champion Carroll College is the preseason favorite in the Frontier.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams and first place was worth five points, second place worth four points, third place worth three points, fourth place worth two points and fifth place worth one point.
