get first taste from Cup; Defeat EOU men 87-67

Costello hit six three-pointers en route to 20 point night as the
Albertson men's basketball took claim to the first I-84 Cup game in a
87-67 win over Eastern Oregon.
The No. 7 ranked Coyotes (12-3, 4-1 CCC)
jumped out to a 13-2 lead and were never threatened, leading by as
many as 28 in the lopsided win.
Rich Fried had 16 points and 12
rebounds for Albertson, while Joe Green scored 12 points, had a
career-high 11 assists, and notched seven steals.
The golden "I-84 Cup" was a
brain-child of athletic directors Rob Cashell of Eastern and Marty
Holly of Albertson. The traveling trophy will go to the victor of each
Cascade Conference men's game between the teams.
The Mountaineers (3-9, 2-3) got a
career-high 26 points and 14 rebounds from Chad Fairbanks, but saw a
two-game win streak ended.
The Mountaineers will
next face
the nation's No. 1-ranked team, Western Baptist College (18-0, 8-0
CCC) Tuesday at 7:30 pm in Quinn Coliseum.
