Red Hot Yotes Too Much For Mounties

12.01.06

Eastern Led Albertson 42-38 at halftime, then went out in the second half and shot 54% from the field, 52% from the 3 point line and 84% from the free throw line and it just wasn't good enough.  ACI shot an astounding 68% percent from the field missing just 8 of their 25 attempts after the intermission to defeat EOU 98-90.

Head Coach Ryan Looney was disappointed saying, "Our inability to stop (Albertson) in the second half was the difference.  We played great offensively, we just could not get stops when we needed to."  Coach Looney went on to say, "On most nights if you play the way we did offensively your going to win.  Unfortunately, we did not execute as well defensively."

The Mountaineers were led by their junior captain Mark Carollo who had a game high 33 points on 12-18 shooting including 7-10 from behind the arc.  Mark also grabbed 9 rebounds, 4 of which were offensive.  Looney said, "Mark played the best all around game of his college career.  He did a great job offensively and he was a force on the boards, but maybe more importantly he did a tremendous job defending Ike Stafford."  Stafford, who came into the game averaging 21 points was held to just 7 while being guarded primarily by Carollo.

Sophomore Tanner McIntosh scored 17 points and had a game high 11 rebounds.  Also chipping in for the Mounties was senior post Derek Brown who finished the game with 14 points.

Eastern will return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 pm when the face Whitman College at Quinn Coliseum in a non-conference match up.
