With a stifling defense and a hot shooting first half the EOU men knocked off the 23rd ranked team in the nation, Northwest University 73-62.
Led by Sophomore Tanner McIntosh's 19 points on a blistering 7-10 from the field and 4-6 from 3, the Mounties led by 13 points at the break and held on to defeat the Eagles despite shooting just 44% (8-18) from the free throw line. In that first stanza Eastern shot an amazing 69% from the field scoring 38 points on just 23 attempts.
In the second half the Mountaineers cooled off shooting only 37% in the final 20 minutes. However, EOU's ability to defend allowed them to maintain a lead and defeat the Eagles. For the game Northwest shot just 35% from the field and 31% from behind the arc.
Mark Carollo added 19 points and 6 rebounds for the Mounties. Jeremy Templeton played 36 minutes and scored 10 points, dished out 4 assists and snatched 4 rebounds while 6'5 inch forward Paul Carollo had 10 rebounds and 6 points. Northwest was led by Aaron Sawyer's 15 points and 12 rebounds.
EOU will face Evergreen Saturday at home. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
