The 2003 season will
mark the tenth anniversary of the EOU Softball program under
the guidance of Head Coach Weissenfluh. She
has been the only head coach since the program was reinstated
in 1995.
Weissenfluh is another
home-grown asset of the coaching ranks of Eastern Oregon.
Anji graduated from Eastern Oregon State College in
1994 as a standout basketball player for the Mountaineers.
She also graduated from La Grande High School in 1989.
Even though still
considered a young program, Coach Weissenfluh has established
Eastern Oregon as a force to be reckoned with at a national
level. She has
led her team to the NAIA National Softball Championships in
1999 and 2000. The
1999 club ended the season with a 4th place finish
in the double-elimination tournament. In 2000, the team finished with a 2-2 record, with losses to
eventual national champion Oklahoma City and runner-up Simon
Fraser (B.C.).
Weissenfluh’s
accomplishments have been rewarded by her peers during her
stint as head coach. In
1998, 1999, 2000, and 2003, she was named Cascade Collegiate
Conference Coach of the Year and also received NAIA Region I
Coach of the Year in 2000.
Weissenfluh's guidance
has produced many outstanding players and
they have been recognized by both the conference and national
association. The Mountaineer program has
produced 28 all-conference
players, 22 of which received all-regional honors.
The program has had six NAIA All-Americans and four
All-NAIA National Tournament performers.
If
coaching one successful sport was not enough, Weissenfluh is
also the Mountaineer’s women basketball coach. That team won
their first-ever conference title in 2001-02 in just her
second season as head coach.
