& Women Invited to Cross Country Nationals

LA GRANDE - Earlier this morning, the
women's cross country team was offered and at-large berth to participate in this year's
NAIA National Cross Country meet, November 22 in Louisville, Ky.
Needless to say, the athletic department and head coach Ben Welch
accepted the invitation.
"We're excited," stated Welch. "It was kind of iffy, but our region is so
strong with women's teams, it was good that they took five
teams."
Along with Eastern Oregon the other
four Region I teams receiving either automatic or at-large berths to
Louisville are: Northwest, British Columbia, Simon Fraser, and Lewis-Clark
State.
For the men, Eastern Oregon was
assured a berth as the #1-ranked team in the land. But Coach
Welch's team went out last Saturday and did what they should have; win
both Cascade Conference and Region I titles to claim the automatice
berth for the Region.
With EOU securing a berth, three other
regional teams made the dance list at nationals: Simon Fraser, British
Columbia, and Lewis-Clark State.
Both teams will honored at a department
sendoff on Tuesday Nov. 18 in Hoke Main Lounge at 3 pm, and then leave
for Boise immediately after.
