LA
GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon's Tricia Haddock, Jamie Jo
Cant, and Sarah Smith have all be recognized by the NAIA
for national post-season honors to round out the 2003-04 women's
basketball season.
Haddock,
the Mountaineer's 5-foot-4 point guard from Parma, Idaho, was named to
the third team of the NAIA's All-American women's basketball squad.
This
is the first time in 15 years a Mountaineer women's basketball player
has been named to any of the NAIA All-American teams.
The last was Kathy McConnell's selection to the honorable
mention team in 1988-89.
Haddock,
who broke head coach Anji Weissenfluh's 10-year assist record
mid-season, finishes her four-year career as the Mountaineer's
all-time leading assist maker with 535. She also finishes with
the highest assist average in school history with 5.1 assists per
game.
Haddock
also finishes up as the most prolific three-point shooter in school
history with 171 treys. Her 34.8% three-point shooting
percentage ranks third among those players with 50 or more made and
sixth with 25 or more made.
Jamie
Jo Cant and Sarah Smith were both named to the Daktronics
NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
Cant,
a 5-foot-7 guard from nearby Imbler, will graduate with her Nursing
degree this year.
Cant,
who was named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference first team, will
finish her three-year career for the Mountaineers as the tenth leading
scorer with 979 points. She also ends up ninth in free throw
shooting with 219 charity tosses and her 74% free throw shooting
percentage ranks tied for eighth all-time at EOU.
Cant
also had 206 assists for ninth all-time at EOU and ends up seventh
overall in steals with 156 thefts.
Smith, a
6-foot-3 center from Bellingham, Wash., is in the junior year of her
Physical Education & Health degree.
Smith, who
has the highest GPA on the squad, blocked a career-high 11 shots this
season in 20 games played. Smith
will need just 12 blocked shots in her senior season to crack the
Mountaineer career top-10.
