The Cascade Collegiate
Conference regular-season and playoff champions prepare for first-ever
trip to the national stage, when No. 16 Eastern Oregon faces No. 17
Dominican University (Calif.).
How They Got There:
Eastern Oregon claimed their first-ever trip to the women's National
Championship by winning the regular-season Cascade Collegiate
Conference championship.
Last Week:
defeated Albertson in the CCC quarterfinals, 82-58; defeated Oregon
Tech in the CCC semifinals, 79-64; defeated Warner Pacific in CCC
title game, 83-64.
This Week: at
the NAIA Women's Division II National Championships, Sioux City, Iowa
- Thursday vs. Dominican (Calif.), 7:15 p.m. (PST); with a win, they
will face the winner of #1 Hastings (Neb.)-Warner Southern (Fla.)
Friday at 7:15 p.m. (PST). The quarterfinal game would be Saturday at
6 p.m. (PST); semifinal game, March 15 at 4 p.m. (PST); and the
Championship March 16 at 4:30 p.m. (PST).

All Mountaineer national tournament games can be heard locally on KWRL
99.9 FM and KEOL 91.7 FM. Eastern's web broadcast of KEOL will also be
available.

Travel Information:
The Mountaineers left for Boise Sunday evening, with their flight to
Omaha leaving this morning at 6 a.m. MST. From the Omaha
airport, the team will travel by van to Sioux City, approximately 95
miles. The team is scheduled to stay at the Holiday Inn Express
in Sioux City and will depart Friday if they lose Thursday or as soon
as they are knocked out of the tournament.
Dominican
University: Dominican (26-6), ranked #17 in the final NAIA coaches
poll, finished tied for first with Holy Names College in the
California Pacific Conference and then lost to the Crusaders, 65-45 in
the finals of the CalPac tournament; The team had a 16-game win
streak snapped in that loss Holy Names.
The Penguins:
Dominican is headed by second-year head coach Scott Davis. Davis
was named Coach of the Year in the CalPac this season.
All-Conference performers include Catherine Gravelle (6-4, Jr.,
Forward, Santa Rosa, Calif.), Timea Ivanyi (6-4, Sr., Center, Szeged,
Hungary), and Lauren Pressley (5-9, Sr., Guard, Oakland, Calif.).
Leading scorer for the
Penguins is Gravelle at 10.9 points per game, with Ivanyi just behind
at 10.4. Ivanyi is the top rebounder at 5.7 boards per
game. No Penguin is averaging over 3 assists a game.
The team shoots very
well at 45.9%, including 32% from beyond the three-point arc.
Mountaineer Awards:
Jamie Jo Cant and Tricia Haddock were named 1st team All-Cascade
Conference. This was Cant second straight appearance on the
list. Michelle Kinley was named as an honorable mention to the
team.
Milestones:
Jamie Jo Cant needs just 31 points to pass 1,000 for her career;
Michelle Kinley also needs 31 points to surpass the career 500-point
plateau.
