LA GRANDE, Ore. – Five Mountaineer
seniors and one graduating junior said goodbye in their final regular
season game this evening with a resounding, 69-49 victory over the
Concordia Cavaliers at Quinn Coliseum.
Playing in their final game, seniors
Tricia Haddock, Christy Smith, Michelle Kinley,
Brye Quatre, Cory Nelson, and junior Jamie Jo Cant,
played exactly like they had all season long; hard-nosed defense and
scoring by all.
Haddock and Cant paced all Mountaineer
scorer with 11 point a piece, while Kinley, in a rare start, had 10
points and 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. Sophomore Candice Davis
stepped aside this evening to let her senior teammate start her
final regular season game. Davis ended the night with 8 points
and a team-high 7 rebounds in just 11 minutes.
Christy Smith and Cory Nelson,
Eastern's other two starting seniors, had 9 and 7 points,
respectively.
Brye Quatre hit just 1-of-5
shots from the field for 2 points, but had 4 rebounds in 12 minutes.
The Mountaineers struggled early after
the Senior Night presentations. Falling behind to the Cavaliers,
but recovered nicely on a Christy Weaver three-pointer to give
the Mountaineers a 19-16 lead for good. Weaver, had a tough time from
the floor for the first time in many games, hitting just 2-of-9,
including just that lone three-pointer for 5 points and 2 rebounds in
18 minutes.
Now with the regular-season out of the
way, the post-season drive to Sioux City will begin on Tuesday against
No. 8-seed Albertson (8-16) in the first-round of the Cascade
Collegiate Conference playoffs.
The Mountaineers have defeated
Albertson in both meeting this season by 11 and 9 points. Game
time for Tuesday's match up is set for 7 p.m., and ticket can be
purchased Monday morning, beginning at 9 am at the EOU Athletic office
or the Cashier's Office at Inlow Hall.
