LA GRANDE, Ore. -
Today, the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball program moved
up to 20th spot on the NAIA Division II Coaches poll.
The team's three wins
last week over Concordia (77-49), Warner Pacific (71-54), and Cascade
(72-32) were the driving force behind the three-spot advancement.
Things will not get
any easier for the NAIA's 20th-ranked squad as they prepare for
Albertson College on Saturday in Caldwell.
The Mountaineers have
won five of their last six games at the J.A. Albertson Sports Complex,
including three tournament victories over Whitman, Great Falls, and
George Fox.
Eastern has won five
of their last six match-ups with the Lady 'Yotes, including three
straight. Their only loss to Albertson during that time was in
the 2002 CCC semifinals, in which the 'Yotes clobbered Eastern Oregon,
92-71 at Quinn Coliseum.
Eastern Oregon (18-2,
12-1 CCC) currently clings to the top spot of the Cascade Collegiate
Conference by two games over Oregon tech, with five games to play.
The winner of the
regular-season title will receive one of two automatic berths to the
NAIA National Tournament in Sioux Falls, IA, March 10-16. The
other berth is awarded to the CCC Tournament champion.
