Score
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Down 31-30 at the
half, the Mountaineers shot 55% in the second half and held Warner
Pacific to just 23 points in the final period, to win their 10th
straight game and 13th out of their last 14, in a 71-54 trouncing of
Warner Pacific at Quinn Coliseum.
Eastern Oregon was paced by the 18
points and 8 assists of senior point guard Tricia Haddock and Cory
Nelson's 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the win.
Michelle Kinley had 13 points and a
team-high 7 rebounds, along with Jamie Jo Cant and Candice Davis.
Cant, the team's top scorer on the
season, was held to just 5 points in 32 minutes. But as it has
been like that all year for the Mountaineers. As one team member
may not be up to her averages, there are one or two other players
stepping up.
Eastern commanded the backboards all
night, edging the Lady Knights 40-30. Midway through the
first-half, with the aid of some tough-earned offensive rebounds, EOU
led the rebounding margin 18-3.
Warner Pacific was led the by the 14
points of Joy Best, who also nailed 4-of-5 three-pointers and the 11
points and 9 rebounds of Jillian Ziesler.
The Mountaineers will return to Quinn
Coliseum on Saturday night to face Cascade College for the third time
this season. As many say, it's hard to defeat any team three
straight times in a season, the Mountaineer will give it their best
effort tomorrow night beginning at 5:30 pm.
Cascade College will broadcast the game
on the internet. A link tot he broadcast will be made available
at www.eou.edu/athletic.
In a special note: The Mountaineer Booster Club bus trip
to Albertson on February 7 still has spots available. If anyone
would like to make the trip to Caldwell to root on the Mountaineers,
please contact the EOU Athletic Department at 962-3364. Cost is
$35 and includes round-trip transportation, admission to the game, and
