PORTLAND, Ore. – Tonight, the
23rd-ranked Mountaineer's placed three players in double-figures as
Eastern Oregon broke open a nine-point halftime lead to a 77-49 rout
of the Concordia Cavaliers and their ninth straight victory.
The win clinches a playoff spot for the
Mountaineers. This will be their third straight trip to the
post-season for an Anji Weissenfluh coached team.
EOU was paced by the backcourt duo of
Tricia Haddock and Jamie Jo Cant with 13 points and 12 points,
respectively.
Christie Weaver was the only other
Mountaineer to break the 10-point barrier with 11 points on 5-of-7
shooting.
Most of the season, the Mountaineers
have had to come from behind, but tonight, EOU jumped out quickly as the raced to
a 30-18 lead. The Cavs dug in to get as close as six at 34-28,
but EOU recovered to get the lead back to nine at
intermission.
EOU then restarted their engines for
the second-half with a 19-6 run to open up a 57-35 lead and then
cruised to the final margin of 29.
If the CCC had a Sixth Man of the Year
award, Michelle Kinley would surely be the front runner for it. Kinley is the second-leading scorer on the team and top rebounder.
Tonight, she had chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds in 21 minutes
off the bench.
Many of the Mountaineer reserves saw
action in the win. Junior post Sarah Smith, had 4 points,
3 rebounds and 2 blocks in just 8 minutes. Senior forward
Brye Quatre nailed 8 points and 3 rebounds in 13 minutes.
She also had a block and a steal.
The Mountaineers will put their 10-game
win streak on the line as they host Warner Pacific on Friday and
Cascade on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 pm at
Quinn Coliseum.
In a special note: The Mountaineer Booster Club bus trip
to Albertson on February 7 still has spots available. If anyone
would like to make the trip to Caldwell to root on the Mountaineers,
please contact the EOU Athletic Department at 962-3364. Cost is
