KIRKLAND, Wash. – Many coaches
subscribe to the notion that you should win at home and steal as many
as you can on the road. In the Cascade Collegiate Conference
that is especially true.
Tonight, the Mountaineer women's team
did exactly that, as they wiped out three-point Lady Eagle halftime
lead to win 61-55 and stay atop the CCC standings.
Jamie Jo Cant led all scorers
with 19 points and chipped in with a season-high six assists.
Tricia Haddock, Eastern's
all-time assist leader (as of Saturday night), tacked on eight more to
her total, and also had four rebounds and two steals.
Cory Nelson and Christie
Weaver each scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
Nelson and top reserve Michelle
Kinley each hauled in a team-high 8 rebounds.
This was the second time in as many
games that Eastern defeated a second-place opponent.
The win now gives head coach Anji
Weissenfluh's team a game and a half lead over both Oregon Tech and
Northwest; with both teams two games back in the loss column.
Eastern Oregon will look to win their
eighth straight and 12 of their last 13 when they face Evergreen
Saturday night in Olympia. Game time is 5:30 pm.
