It looks like the Eastern Oregon
basketball women are going to have to keep winning to get more
national attention.
The Eastern women picked up 21 points
in the latest NAIA Division II national Associated Press poll, but it
wasn't enough for them to bust into the top 25.
The Eastern women (13-2 overall, 7-1 in
Cascade Collegiate Conference play) got the 29th-most points in the
poll.
Eastern is in first place in the CCC, a
game up on 7-2 Northwest. The Eastern women are first in the
conference in scoring, first in defense and first in scoring
differential. None of the other teams in the CCC are in the top 25,
though Oregon Tech, whom Eastern defeated last weekend, did receive
four points.
Fourteen teams in the top 25 have more
losses than Eastern. Six teams have five or more losses, compared to
Eastern's two.
Eastern plays at Northwest Friday and
Evergreen State Saturday. Eastern lost its only conference game of the
year early this season to Northwest.
In the men's poll, Albertson, the
first-place team in the CCC, is ranked No. 5, while Southern Oregon is
ranked No. 21.
The Eastern men, ranked No. 19 for a
week earlier this month, lost to Southern in overtime this weekend,
and was within one point of Albertson with nine minutes left, but lost
by 10.
