EOU's Haddock Breaks Career Assist record in Rout of #24 Tech
Eastern Oregon wins 6th straight

January 17, 2004

Box Score

LA GRANDE, Ore. – With 11:13 left in the second half, Eastern Oregon's Tricia Haddock hit Candice Davis on a inbound layup to break head coach Anji Weissenlfuh's all-time Mountaineer assist record of 427 in a 71-53 rout of 24th-ranked Oregon Tech tonight at Quinn Coliseum.

The win was the sixth straight for the Mountaineer's and the ninth out of their last ten.

It was just a matter of time this season when Haddock would break Coach Weissenfluh's record, but some did not think it would come this quickly.  Given her career assist average, it worked out to be around next weekend's road trip for the magic number to get hit, but two strong performances garnered 19 assists in two nights at home to break the 11-year old mark.

The game itself was all Mountaineers from the 13 minute mark of the first half on.  Eastern Oregon used a 19-2 run over a five minute span to take a commanding 16-point lead that they never would relinquish.

The Mountaineers did lead by as many as 28 at the half-way mark of the second half, but Oregon Tech would chip away over the final 10 minutes to cut the final margin of the EOU victory to 18 points at 71-53.

For her other offensive efforts, Haddock just missed a double-double as she scored 8 points to go along with her 10 assists.  She also hit two more three-pointers to enlarge her EOU career record mark to 141 treys.

Jamie Jo Cant had a game-high 18 points to lead all scorers.  She also had 4 rebounds and 4 assists.  Candice Davis ended the night with 13 points and 6 boards.

Michelle Kinley ended the contest with 16 points on 7-of-8 from the field and 5 rebounds.  Even though she did not score, Cory Nelson led all Mountaineers in rebounding with 7 boards.

La Grande High School's Christie Weaver put a damper on the homecoming of fellow Tiger alumnus, OIT's Lindsey Carmichael.  Weaver hit 5-of-6 shot from the field, including a pair of treys for 13 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes.  Carmichael managed just 3 points on 1-of-8 shooting with 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 30 minutes in front of the home crowd.

Oregon Tech's Nikki McElligott had 12 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Meggan Sager with 11 points.

The Mountaineers (13-2, 7-1 CCC) dominated from the field, hitting 55% (28-51) from the floor and 6-of-13 shooting from beyond three-point range.

Oregon Tech (12-6, 6-3 CCC) managed just an icy 36.4% (20-55) from the floor and 6-of-18 from trey land.

Eastern Oregon will try to keep the streak going as they now hit the road for three straight, beginning next weekend in Kirkland, Wash. to face Northwest College, then Evergreen State College the following night.  There will not be much rest as they will drive home from the Puget Sound area, only to jump back into the bus to face Concordia on Tuesday, January 27.  All game will begin at 5:30pm.
