Hang On Against 'Yotes, Win 65-56
Mountaineers now 10-2 on the season

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Mountaineers led
by double-digits throughout the second-half, but staved off a late
Albertson rush at the end of the game, to defeat the 'Yotes, 65-56 in
Cascade Collegiate Conference action tonight at Quinn Coliseum.
Eastern Oregon (10-2, 4-1 CCC) fell
behind early in the game, as Albertson jumped out to a 17-11 lead with
just under 13 minutes left in the first half. EOU then went on a
25-4 run to end the half and take a 36-21 lead into the locker room.
The Mountaineer's hot hand continued in
the second stanza, as EOU built a 21-point lead at 52-31 with 12
minutes to go in the game.
The Lady Coyotes then chipped away to
cut the Mountaineer lead down to just six (62-56) with 51 seconds left
in regulation, but two foul shots by EOU's Michelle Kinley and another
by Tricia Haddock, proved to be the final scoring in the game and also
the final result of 65-56.
Eastern Oregon got 34 of their 65
points from the backcourt tandom of Jamie Jo Cant and Tricia
Haddock. Cant led all scorers with 20 points, on 7-of-10
shooting, and 6 rebounds. Haddock would finish the evening with
14 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Each played 31 minutes.
Michelle Kinley just missed a
double-double with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Albertson got 18 points and 5 rebounds
from Danielle Cotterell and a double-double from Michelle Dyreng with
12 points and 10 rebounds.
Eastern Oregon shot 42% from the floor
as a team, while Albertson hit on 39% percent of their field goal
attempts.
The Mountaineers forced the 'Yotes in
28 turnovers, while committing 20 themselves.
Eastern Oregon will prepare for
Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech next Friday and Saturday here in La
Grande. Both games are scheduled as the first games of women-men
doubleheaders. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
