Shooting Dooms Mountaineers in 77-71 Loss to Eagles

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Tonight, cold
shooting left the Mountaineer high-and-dry, as Northwest College (5-6,
2-0 CCC) got a game-high 26 points from Jennifer DeYoung to defeat
Eastern Oregon, 77-71 at Quinn Coliseum.
Eastern was able to hit for seven
three-points, including four from Jamie Jo Cant, but Northwest
had an answer for any the Mountaineers could throw at them.
Eastern Oregon ended the night shooting
37.7% from the floor, while Northwest shot 45%.
Cant led the Eastern Oregon, now 7-2
and 1-1 in conference play, with 17 points in 39 minutes.
Candice Davis, who try mightily
all night long to stop DeYoung, ended the evening with 16 points and a
team-high 8 boards.
Christie Weaver, who started in
place of Christy Smith (who was attending a family wedding), had a
solid performance shooting 5-of-8 from the field, including a trey, to
end with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
The only other Mountaineer to end the
evening in double-figured was Michelle Kinley who had 11
points, that including 7-of-8 shooing from the free throw line.
Kinley also chipped in with 7 rebounds in just 18 minutes.
Tricia Haddock, with 6 more
assists tonight, is now just 36 assists from eclipsing head coach Anji
Weissenfluh's career mark of 427.
Northwest got 15 points from Kristin
Boyd and a game-high 12 rebounds from Kelly Clarke.
Both teams will take the next 13 days
off before returning to Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Eastern Oregon will travel to Portland to face Cascade and Warner
Pacific after the New Year. Northwest will open the home
conference schedule against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
