COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - Eastern Oregon's
non-starters got a rare chance to show their wares against Walla Walla
College Saturday night as many of them saw extended playing time
against the Wolves in a 104-48 Mountaineer victory.
The 104 points was the most by a
Mountaineer women's since the 1993-94 season when EOU outscored
Concordia 120-79 and 102-64.
La Grande's Sandy Isbell saw 22
minutes played, 13 more than her average and made the best of every
one of them as she led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting,
including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Isbell had come into
Saturday's game having scored just six total points in six games
played.
Linzi Strohm, another
Mountaineer who has seen limited playing time, led all Mountaineers
with 25 minutes. During her time, Strohm had five rebounds,
three points and three steals.
Michelle Kinley continued to
impress off the bench with 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting, four
rebounds, and two steals in just 14 minutes.
As for the regular starters, Jamie
Jo Cant, destroyed the Wolves' defense by scoring 16 points in
just 16 minutes, with two treys and five steals.
Christy Smith chipped in with 14
points on 6-of-8 shooting in 13 minutes.
Tricia Haddock continued her
assault on the Mountaineer record books by hitting her career best
125th three-pointer and now is within 47 assists of head coach Anji
Weissenfluh's (1989-93) all-time mark of 427. With her sixth
assist this week, Haddock will surpass Kathy McConnell (1985-89) for
second place on the all-time list.
The Mountaineers as a team out
rebounded Walla Walla, 33-15, and shot 57.1% (36-63) from the
floor. Eastern Oregon's accuracy from the floor was their best
this season.
Eastern Oregon (6-1, 0-0 CCC) will open
Cascade Conference play next week as they host Evergreen (Wednesday,
Dec. 17) and Northwest (Saturday, Dec. 20). As with all
conference games, the women will play at 5:30 pm before the men's game
at 7:30 pm.
