LA GRANDE, Ore.
- The Mountaineer volleyball team bolstered their ball handling
for the 2004 season, signing two prep setters to Mountaineer Letters
of Intent.
Jenna Elliott
comes to Eastern Oregon University from Rogers High School in
Puyallup, Wash. Elliott was named 1st Team All-South Puget Sound
League where she led the conference in assists and was among the
league leaders in serving percentage, aces and digging.
In the classroom,
Elliott has garnered recognition from the National Honor Society as
well as being named a three-time Outstanding Scholar-Athlete at
Rogers.
Coach Ryan Platt
on the signing of Elliott:
"We are extremely excited to have Jenna join our
program. She will immediately push for a starting role at the setter's
position. I have had the opportunity to get to know her and her family
and feel that she is a perfect match for the team and for Eastern
Oregon University. We are very excited that she chose us, especially
since she had her choice between playing for us or NCAA Division I New
Mexico State University."
Also signing with the Mountaineer volleyball team is Kelsey
Brouillette of Canby (Ore.) High School. In 2003,
Brouillette named 1st Team All-Three Rivers League and team Most
Valuable Player. The Cougars qualified for the OSAA 4A State
Tournament during Kelsey's junior year, losing in the first-round to
Ashland.
The Beavercreek, Ore. native, not only excels on the
hardwood, but on the tennis court as well. She has qualified for
the past two OSAA 4A State Championships. She was also a Gold
Medal winner at last year's State Games of Oregon in the Female
18-and-under singles division.
Brouillette's also excels in the classroom, as she is a
member of the National Honor Society.
Platt on the Brouillette's signing:
"Kelsey is a great addition to our team and we are
happy to have her. I have had the opportunity to get to know her and
her family and feel she will fit in perfectly with our team chemistry.
She is a great setter; solid defender, tough server, and can run a
very quick offense. Kelsey is a great person and will augment our
program with hard work on the court and in our classrooms."
