Offensive woes continue; Mountaineers lose Three

September 13, 2003

Box Score

LA GRANDE - The Mountaineer offensive woes continued as Eastern Oregon (1-9, 0-2 CCC) miscues on serve reception and attacks were no match for the taller and stronger 12th-ranked Southern Oregon squad, as Eastern drop in three straight games, 14-30, 13-30, 15-30.

"Southern is a great team," said a dejected Mountaineer head coach Ryan Platt. "Right now, we're struggling."

The Mountaineers have now dropped six straight matches, and have been defeated in last their last 17 straight games.

Leading the Mountaineers was Misty Jenkin (5-9, Sr., RS, Mattawa, Wash.) with six kills and Jamie Russell (6-1, So., MB, Grangeville, Idaho) came off the bench with five terminal attacks. Kaki McLean (5-10, Jr., OH, Paulina, Ore.) once again led all Eastern players with 11 digs.  McLean also had a solo block.

For Southern, All-Everything Kristina Matchett led all players with 14 kills, 12 digs, and two aces.

Southern as a team had 8 blocks with Nicholette Le Bel leading everyone with five, including a solo block.

The road will not get easier, as the Mountaineer will travel to Salem to face Western Baptist on Friday, then saddle up and head to Portland on Saturday for a date with the Concordia Cavaliers.
