12, 2004
PORTLAND, Ore. - Tomorrow, the
Eastern Oregon University Mountaineer softball team will begin their
sixth consecutive year in the post-season looking for a berth to the
NAIA National Softball Tournament.
The last visit to the national stage for
the Mountaineers was in 2000 . Their best finish at nationals
was a tie for 4th place in 1999.
In order to get to Athens, Georgia, the
site of this year's National Championship, the Mountaineers must
begin by defeating the 2nd-ranked Simon Fraser University Clan in
the first round of the NAIA Region I playoffs beginning held at
Delta Park in North Portland. The tournament is a four-team
double-elimination playoff. The
Mountaineers faced the Clan earlier this season in the Central
Washington University Invitational Tournament. The Clan defeat
Eastern Oregon 7-1 in that game.
Southern Oregon, the 2nd-seed in this
year's regional tournament will face off with CCC foe and third-seed
Oregon Tech. Earlier today, the
All-Cascade Conference and All-NAIA Region I teams were announced.
On the conference side, Casi Reisenauer,
Beth Hull and Shannon Rasmussen were all named to the first team.
Nicole Landstrom was picked as an honorable mention selection.
Reisenauer and Rasmussen were selected
to the All-Region first-team squad. Both those Mountaineer players
will await the announcement to the NAIA All-American squads during
the national championships. |
