Softball end regular
season with sweep over 'yotes May

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Today, the Mountaineers end the 2004 regular
season with a pair of wins over Albertson College, 11-0 and 5-3, at
the EOU Softball Field. Today,
was the final home appearance for seniors Adrienne Fullmer, Casi
Reisenauer, and Jayne-Leigh Thomas.
Win the win, Eastern Oregon clinched
their sixth straight appearance in the post-season. Eastern
Oregon will more than likely meet 2nd-ranked Simon Fraser in the
first-round of the NAIA Region I tournament, but the official
bracket will not be announced until Sunday night.
Along with Simon Fraser and Eastern
Oregon, Oregon Tech and CCC Champion Southern Oregon will be joining
the party in North Portland at Delta Park.
Game one Eastern Oregon scored five
times and four more times in the third in route to an 11-0 victory.
Tonilynn Reardon went 3-for-4 with four
RBIs, reaching base in all four of her plate appearances.
Sierra Russell was a perfect 2-for-2 with two run batted in.
Senior Jayne-Leigh Thomas pitched the
first four innings for the win for her sixth victory of the season
and final home appearance. Lisa Fox pitched a 1-2-3 fifth
inning for the combined shutout. It was Eastern Oregon's 11th
shutout of the season. In games
two, the 'Yotes made things a little more interesting as they scored
single runs in the second, third and fifth, but they were not enough
as EOU threw up a two-spot in the first, a single tally in the
fourth and an two runs in sixth for the final margin of 5-3.
Shannon Rasmussen picked up her 15th win
of 2004 as she scattered nine Albertson hits and struck out two,
while allowing just the three earned runs.
Sierra Russell racked up another two
hits to go 4-for-5 on the day.
Regardless of their opponent, the Mountaineers will open NAIA Region
I tournament play at 11:30 am in North Portland at Delta Park. |
