Mountaineers Eliminate 'Yotes
from Playoffs
April 24, 2004
Game 1 - Eastern Oregon 2, Albertson 1
Game 2 - Eastern Oregon 8, Albertson 1
CALDWELL, Idaho -
Adrienne Fullmer went 3-for-7 with a double, homer, and four RBI
as Eastern Oregon eliminated the Albertson softball team from
postseason contention, sweeping the Lady 'Yotes 2-1 and 8-1 at Symms
Field.
The sweep inches the
second-place Mountaineers to within three games of
conference-leading Southern Oregon. Southern split weekend
doubleheaders with Concordia and Western Baptist. Southern and
Eastern will meet head-to-head next weekend.
In the opener, Albertson
(10-25, 4-15 CCC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Lisa
Stout double to left field, scoring Katie Theisen from second.
However, Eastern (18-13,
11-8) rallied in the fifth, as Casi Reisenauer followed a
two-base error on a ball hit by Tonilynn Reardon with a
sacrifice fly, scoring Shannon Rasmussen to tie the score. Fullmer
would lead off the sixth with her first homer of the season to give
the Mountaineers the lead.
The Coyotes would
threaten in the seventh, putting two runners on with two outs, but
Stout flew out to deep left field to end the game.
Game 2 saw Eastern break
open a 1-0 game in the sixth with four runs, keyed by a
bases-clearing double by Fullmer. They would tack on three more
runs in the seventh on a Beth Hull three-run homer to seal
the win.
Shannon Rasmussen was
the winner in game 1, pushing her season record to 11-6. She
would scatter four Coyote hits and allow just the one run.
Jayne-Leigh Thomas
picked up the win the nightcap, evening her record at 5-5. She
equaled Rasmussen's effort in the first game; giving up a single run
on four hits.
Eastern Oregon returns
to action on tomorrow, hosting Walla Walla at 1 p.m. from the EOU
softball field.
