Game 1 -
Eastern Oregon 2, Oregon Tech 1
Game 2 - Oregon
Tech 5, Eastern Oregon 3
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern
Oregon got clutch hits by Nicole Landstrom and Kalli
McGilly to take game one 2-1 in this CCC doubleheader, but could
not find that same clutch hitting in game two, losing to Oregon Tech
in the nightcap, 5-3.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom
of the sixth, Landstrom laced a one out, double into right center to
set up Kalli McGilly's RBI single to center to give eastern a 2-1
lead that they would not relinquish.
Shannon Rasmussen pitched the
complete game, scattering six hits and allowing just the lone run on
a Lois Shoemaker RBI single in the third.
Rasmussen and Tonilynn Reardon were
tops offensively for Eastern with two hits each in the
contest. McGilley and Nikki Schultz had the run batted
in for the Mountaineers. Schultz game tying RBI came in the
bottom of the third when she knocked in Adrienne Fullmer after a
Lanstrom sacrifice bunt to move Fullmer over to second.
In the nightcap, Oregon Tech's bats
came alive in the fifth, when the Owls tagged EOU starter Rasmussen
for three runs that broke a 2-2 tie.
Rasmussen allowed four straight
Oregon Tech batter to reach via a two singles and two doubles as two
runs were plated before giving way to Jayne-Leigh Thomas.
Thomas then gave up an RBI single for the Owls' fifth straight hit
and a 5-2 lead. She then got an out on a fielders' choice and
a nice inning ending double play by Landstrom before any more damage
could be inflicted.
Eastern Oregon mounted a challenge in
the bottom of the seventh.
After Rasmussen was robbed by OIT
third baseman Nikki Staley on a line drive destined for extra bases,
Reardon reached on a single, followed by Casi Reisenauer fielder's
choice that retired Reardon.
With two out, Tech starter Kelsey
Madsen gave up a hit to Beth Hull and a walk to Heather
Tandberg to load the bases for Fullmer.
Fullmer smacked a shot back up the
middle to plate Reisenauer and cut the OIT lead to 5-3. Oregon
Tech then made the call to the bullpen and found Kelly Palmanteer.
Palmanteer struckout Landtrom on a
foul tip to end the Mountaineer threat and the game.
Reisenauer was the big stick of the
game for eastern, collecting three hits in four at-bats and an
RBI. Tonilynn Reardon also had three hits in the
contest and a run scored.
Reardon went 5-for-6 for the day to
raise her batting average 54 points to .312 for the season.
Oregon Tech's Madsen picked up the
win, while Palmanteer got the save for her one-third inning of
work. Rasmussen got the loss (8-4).
Eastern Oregon will face 19th ranked
Southern Oregon (22-4, 9-0 CCC) tomorrow in a doubleheader starting
at noon. Oregon Tech will travel east on I-84 to Caldwell, Idaho and
face Albertson College. Those games will begin at 11 am (MDT). |
