SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon took
advantage of some shoddy Western Baptist defense in taking the
opener of Saturday’s Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader,
7-2, but the Warriors rallied from behind to pull out the second
game, 5-4.
Sabra Gamel
hit her second home run of the day to lift the Warriors (15-12, 5-4
CCC) to the Game 2 victory. Her solo shot to centerfield that snapped a 4-4 tie in
the fifth.
Western Baptist committed five
errors in Game 1 and two of them led to the Mountaineers’ unearned
in the first. WB tied it with Borde’s run-scoring single in
the fourth, but Eastern Oregon broke the game open in the fifth –
scoring four runs on six hits and three Warrior errors.
EOU made it 7-1 in the sixth using a Nicki Schultz
single, Casi Reisenauer double, and Beth Hull base rap to tally two more runs.
Gamel’s first homer of the day capped the scoring in the bottom
half.
The Mountaineers out-hit the
Warriors 13-10 in Game 1.
Shannon Rasmussen went the
distance, striking out four and walking one to notch the triumph.
Meeker (5-6) suffered the loss.
In game 2, Western Baptist spotted the
Mountaineers (11-10, 4-5) three runs in the top of the first.
Eastern Oregon loaded the bases with no outs off starter Rachel Hiatt
then got a run on a groundout and a RBI single by Heather Tandberg.
A throwing error produced another run.
Back-to-back singles by Nicole Landstrom
and Kalli McGilley
followed by another WB defensive miscue allowed Eastern Oregon to
tie things in the fourth – setting the stage for Gamel’s
game-winner.
Rachel Hiatt (10-5) settled down after the
first to get the win, scattering 12 hits in seven innings.
McGilley surrendered the homer to Gamel in relief and took the loss.
