Softball Splits with Cavaliers
April 2, 2004
Game 1 -
Eastern Oregon 1, Concordia 0
Game 2 -
Concordia 6, Eastern Oregon 2
PORTLAND - Eastern Oregon's
Shannon Rasmussen scattered five hits while shutting out
Concordia 1-0 in the first game of the Mountaineer's doubleheader
with Concordia, but the Cav's rebounded in the nightcap with a 6-2
victory to gain a split of the Cascade Conference matchup.
Rasmussen, who just gets better with
each start, did not allow a runner past second base in her complete
game outing.
Eastern Oregon scored their lone run
in the second inning, when Nicole Landstrom singled home
Heather Tandberg from second base. Tandeberg singled to
lead off the inning and then advanced to second base on an
Adrienne Fullmer sacrifice bunt.
Tandeberg went 2-for-3 in the game,
with Landstrom and Kalli McGilley picking up singles in the game.
In the nightcap, the Cavaliers jumped
on Mountaineer pitching with three runs in the second and third
innings, topping the Mountaineer 6-2.
Senior pitcher Jayne-Leigh Thomas
was chased after just two innings, allowing three
runs (all earned) on three hits and a walk, Thomas eventually gave
way to junior Kalli McGilley. McGilley managed to get
through just a third of a inning and after four more Cavalier hits
and three runs, head coach Anji Weissenfluh went back to game one
starter Shannon Rasmussen to get out of the third inning.
Rasmussen finished the
third allowing just a single hit.
Weissenfluh called upon Lisa Fox,
the Mountaineer's fourth pitcher of the game, to finish the game,
pitching three scoreless innings and allowing one hit.
The Mountaineer offense was stifled
by the Cavalier's Kristin Donehue, who allowed eight hits and just
two runs, while striking out seven and walking one.
Adrienne Fullmer and Beth
Hull each had two hits in the contest. Fullmer had a
double as did Tonilynn Reardon, for her only hit.
In other CCC action, Albertson and
Western Baptist split a CCC doubleheader in Salem, while Oregon Tech
shutout Patten College twice in non-conference action.
Southern Oregon was idle on Friday.
Eastern Oregon will travel 45 or so
miles down I-5 to meet Western Baptist in a doubleheader on
Saturday. Those games will begin at noon |
