Spring break for the
EOU softball team will bring one of the busiest in the ten years that
Coach Anji Weissenlfuh has headed the program. The team will
play ten games in seven days in two different states.
Early next week, the
team will play in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational tournament that will
pit the Mountaineers against five teams from all over the country.
The Invitational is a
traditional warm-weather tournament, as it hosts 49 teams over
29 days.
The Mountaineer's
tournament schedule has been adjust slightly from the one that was was
posted previously on the EOU web site.
Sunday, EOU will face
Dickinson State (N.D.) at 4 pm, then North Central (Ill.) at 6
pm. Eastern Oregon was to play St. Olaf (Minn.), but the North
Central game will be pushed up from Monday to take St. Olaf's time
slot.
Dickinson State begins
its season in Tucson on March 15 and their game with Eastern will be
their 11th of the season and ninth official contest as they will have
played twice against Community College teams. A current record
was unavailable.
North Central College
of Illinois, an NCAA III team, begins its season at the Invitational
and will have four games under their belts when they meet Eastern
Oregon late Sunday.
Monday, the
Mountaineers will face Hamline (Minn.) at 4 pm. Hamline, also an
NCAA III team, opens their 2004 season in Tucson and Eastern Oregon
will be their second game of the young season.
New to the revamped
EOU schedule is Doane College of Nebraska. Doane comes in to
Tucson with a 4-6 record and will have played two games prior to
meeting Eastern on Sunday.
After a day off, The
Mountaineers will finish up their five-game, four-day tournament with
Hastings College (Neb.) at 11 am on Wednesday. Hastings will
have started their tournament play one day after Eastern. The
Broncos have played in five game prior to their arrival in Tucson and
they will have played three game prior to their meeting with the
Mountaineer, including face #1 Simon Fraser earlier on that Wednesday.
That will have taken
care of the first half of Spring Break for the Mountaineers. The
team will return to Boise, take Thursday off, then begin Cascade
Collegiate Conference play with the CCC Tip-Off tournament hosted by
Albertson College in Caldwell on Friday and Saturday. All games
played in the tournament will count toward Cascade Collegiate
Conference standings.
Eastern Oregon's
tournament schedule includes games against Western Baptist (8 am),
Southern Oregon (1:15 pm), and Concordia (7 pm) on Friday, then
finishing up with Oregon Tech (10:45 am) and Albertson (8 pm) on
Saturday. All times are Mountain Standard.
Mountaineer

leading the Mountaineers in batting with a .458 batting average and
four doubles, with Shannon Rasmussen right behind with a .400 batting
average.
Rasmussen is tops in
the pitching circle with a 2-1 record and 1.29 ERA in 14 inning of
