Oregon University 2
RICHLAND, Wash. - Friday, the Eastern
Oregon softball team dropped their first two games of the Royal Inn
Central Washington University softball tournament at Columbia
Playfields.
The Mountaineers fell to the NAIA's
No. 1-ranked team, Simon Fraser University (B.C.) in game 1, 7-1,
then lost to conference foe Southern Oregon, 3-2, in the nightcap.
Against Simon Fraser, the
Mountaineer's Jayne-Leigh Thomas (L, 1-1) started and took
her first loss of the season as she worked four innings; giving up
nine hits and six runs, while walking four. Thomas was then
relieved by Lisa Fox. This was Fox's first appearance
of the season. In her three innings, Fox allowed four hits and
one earned run.
Five Eastern players each had one hit
in the contest, including a double by Casi Reisenauer.
The nightcap would be closer, but
Eastern Oregon came up on the short end of a 3-2 score with Southern
Oregon.
The Mountaineers got on the
scoreboard first with a run in the first on an RBI groundout by Casi
Reisenauer. Eastern's Shannon Rasmussen led off the game with
a single up off Raider starter Megan Beguli. After a sacrifice
bunt by Heather Tandeburg and a stolen base, Reisenauer
knocked in Rasmussen for the 1-0 lead.
Southern answered in the top of the
third off of EOU starter Kalli McGilley (L, 0-1). This
would be McGilly's first appearance as a Mountaineers after two
season at North Idaho Community College.
SOU scored after a single by Amy
Williams, then a groundout and a passed ball, pushed Williams to
third, where she would score on a Kara Ray single.
Eastern would retake the lead 2-1 in
the bottom of the third. With one out, Heather Tandeberg
reached on a fielder's choice. Reisenauer then doubled advancing
Tandeberg to third. Beth Hull then walked to load the bases.
Andrienne Fullmer then hit a shot to third that allowed the speedy
Tandeberg to score before Reisenauer was tagged out on the play.
The final scoring of the game came in
the top of the fifth as SOU scored twice on back to back RBI singles
by Megan Rock and Ray.
Eastern did have one more real good
scoring chance in the sixth. With runners at first and third
and two out, Nikki Schultz blazed a line drive to third that was
snared by the Raider third baseman.
Eastern Oregon (2-2) will continue
play in the tournament Saturday with games against Northwest
Nazarene and Utah Valley State, before wrapping up against Albertson
on Sunday.
