The
Eastern Oregon baseball team will open a three-game, NAIA Region I
series with the University of British Columbia this weekend.
The Mountaineers are currently in
the midst of a four-game win streak.
Last week, Nathan Beachy (RHP,
Jr., Arlington, Wash.) was
named Cascade Conference and NAIA Region I Player of the Week
after pitching eight shutout inning in a 9-5 win over Oregon
Tech. The three-game sweep was the first for a Mountaineer
team since 2002.
Jesse Longoria (OF, Sr.,
Lewisville, Tex.), the Cascade
Conference and NAIA Region I Player of the Week for March 22-29,
leads all EOU batters with a .588 batting average, but he has
played in just seven of the Mountaineer's 24 games. Ryan
Carpenter's (2B, Jr., Portland, Ore.) .350 average, is top for players that have played
in 12 or more games.
This week's opponent, British
Columbia, currently leads the NAIA Region I race for the post
season with an 11-2 record, 21-11 overall. All games in the
Eastern Oregon-British Columbia series can be heard here stateside on a pay-per-game basis. Go to www.gothunderbirds.ca

| The Mountaineer
softball team will look to move up in the standings of the Cascade
Collegiate Conference against Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon this
weekend at the EOU Softball Field.
The games mark the first of the
season at home for the travel-weary Mountaineers. Eastern
Oregon has spent the first six weeks of the season on the road,
which began on February 28 in Nampa, Idaho.
On Friday, EOU will take on Oregon Tech.
Tech, who defeated Walla Walla College on Thursday night, currently
maintains a 14-14 record.
Saturday, conference-leading Southern Oregon
will make it's annual appearance in La Grande for a doubleheader
beginning at Noon.
Casi Reisenauer (IF, Sr., Spirit Lake,
Idaho) leads the Mountaineers with a .391 batting average and five
stolen bases. In the pitching circle, Shannon Rasmussen (RHP/DP,
Jr., Everett, Wash.) is tops on the team with a 7-3 record and 1.01
ERA. Also, Rasmussen's diminutive 1.01 ERA leads all Cascade
Collegiate Conference pitchers.
Live statistics will be available for both
doubleheaders. Go to www.eou.edu/athletic
for links to both games each day.
On the record watch, Jayne-Leigh Thomas (RHP,
Sr., Selah, Wash.) need just one more save to become the all-time
saves leader in school history. She is currently tied with Mandi
Kadell (1996-97) with four.
Thomas, who has been a starter most of her
four-year career, picked up two saves early in the season at the
Central Washington tournament to match Kadell's total.
