LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Eric Griffith wrapped up his final day of the Decathlon and senior Eric Griffiths concluded his collegiate career with his run in the 5000-meters during the second day of action at the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In the Decathlon, the La Grande native finished in 15th position with 5,687 points. This total was just shy of his entering mark of 5,883 points; a total that claimed him the Cascade Collegiate Conference title.
In the 5,000-meter run prelims, Eric Griffiths fell just short of qualifying for Saturday's finals with a time of 15 minutes, 8.17 seconds. Final qualifying time to the 16-runner finals was 15:02.24. Griffiths ends his outdoor career with a All-American honor last season in the 10,000-meter run.
In a separate award ceremony, Griffiths, along with seniors Ian Schroeder and Stephanie Colkitt were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom with Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete awards. This is not the first such award for the trio as Griffiths received similar awards in 2002 and 2004. Schroeder was recognized the past two season and Colkitt last year.
The national meet will conclude Saturday with Schroeder competing in the 1,500-meter finals, Colkitt in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase finals and Dirk Bortz in the Discus.
