LA GRANDE, Ore. - In a post-season full of rewards Eastern Oregon’s Nick Hannah received the ultimate compliment, an NFL contract.
While watching the NFL draft this weekend Hannah had a good idea an offer would be made. Moments after the New England Patriots made their final pick the call came.
“During the last pick my agent received the call, and then about two minutes after the last pick I got the call,” Hannah said.
The Indianapolis Colts made the standard free-agent offer, a one year contract at the league minimum.
“I’m excited about this opportunity, and I just plan to stick to my plan,” Hannah said.
Hannah’s plan worked in his final season with the Mountaineers garnering him second-team NAIA All-American honors at his linebacker position, while recording 121 tackles.
Also in the postseason Hannah was named third-team All-American linebacker from Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.
Provided Hannah makes the team, going from Community Stadium to the friendly confines of the RCA Dome, which houses 54,000 more fans, will illustrate the jump he is making.
“It just shows that if you work hard, you can achieve your dreams,” Hannah said.
Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher put mini-camps into perfect perspective saying, “The rookies walk through the door and they’re reminded of the realization of their dream come true, they are getting the opportunity they have dreamed about, a chance to compete for a spot on an NFL club.”
The Colts mini-camp begins on the April 28th and runs through May 1st.
